Deborah Hinde

Back Deborah Hinde lives and works from her home in rural Waikato, New Zealand. After many years woking as a graphic designer, opportunity and a chance comment from a work colleague changed Deborah’s career direction to working full time as an illustrator.

Deborah is the illustrator of more than 70 books, 39 of which are picture books. Among her latest successes are Moo and Moo and the Little Calf too, written by Jane Milton (Allen and Unwin, 2017) and her own authored and illustrated books Hare (Picturebook Publishing, 2016) and Hollybee Hope wants a Prickly Coat (Picturebook Publishing, 2018).

In 2018 she received the Storylines Notable Book Award for The Spaghetti Giraffe by Sarah Johnson (Flat Bed Press, 2017). Te Reo Singalong; Matariki by Sharon Holt (The Writing Bug, 2015) won the CLNZ Educational Publishing Awards Teacher’s Choice Award for Best Resource in Te Reo Maori in 2015. In 2013 the Te Reo Singalong series won the NZ Maori Language Awards.

Deborah has run illustration workshops, taught art in local primary schools, and run after school art programmes. She was one of the coorganisers of the Between the Lines; Waikato Childrens Authors and Illustrators Exhibition. Deborah has also appeared at WaiPRU and WCLA seminars.
